Animal Encounters

Do you want to get up close and personal with some exotic animals?
Well now is your chance.
The amazing Chris Johnson from South West Animal Services will be joining us once again along with some exciting animals to tell you about their habitats, their diet and everything in between.
Students will also receive an animal guide, which they can fill out and take home.

Drones Workshop - Skyfarer

In this session, you will work in teams to design a delivery service - selecting the most suitable aircraft, planning an efficient route, and tackling real-world challenges like airspace restrictions and weather conditions.
Whether you are interested in science, technology, business or medicine, this is a chance to explore a fast-growing industry and see how different skills come together to solve real-world challenges.
Eco Candle Making

Get ready to mix science with creativity in our Eco Candle Making workshop. During this fun, hands-on session, students will explore the fascinating chemistry behind candle making, while creating their own eco-friendly soy wax candle to take home.
Students will learn how soy wax, made from natural soybean oil, is a sustainable alternative to traditional paraffin wax. We will explore how materials change from solid to liquid and back again, discover how temperature affects melting and setting, and see how fragrances blend through gentle heat and mixing.

Escape Rooms! – Plessey, Plymouth

Building the microLED displays for smart glasses requires problem-solving, scientific knowledge, and teamwork.
We need to demo our microLED technology before our competitors.
To keep it safe, we have created a set of clues that you will have to solve to open it.

Fish Dissection
Date – Wednesday, 1 April 2026

Year Group – All Year's welcome

Come along for a fish dissection! Students will have the opportunity to investigate the internal anatomy of a fish and learn how its body is specially adapted for life in water. You will locate and examine organs such as the gills, heart, liver, stomach, and intestines, discovering the important jobs each one performs.
Lego Challenge
Date – Monday, 30 March 2026
Time – Blocks 1, 2 or 3

Year Group – Years 7–9
Spaces available – 30 per session
Get involved in a game that tests communication, logistical and decision-making skills.
Working in teams, you will compete to create an efficient production line and build as many Lego cranes as possible within a time limit.
Make decisions on whether to spend your profits to make improvements or save them.
Midwifery
Date – Tuesday, 31 March 2026

Year Group - Year's 10-13

This session introduces students to the biology, physiology and healthcare science behind pregnancy, birth and newborn care, while exploring midwifery as a skilled and rewarding medical career. Students will see how subjects like biology, chemistry, psychology, and health science connect directly to real clinical practice.
Orchard Farm Visit – Mothecombe
Please note: a £13 visit fee is required to attend this event

The farm was established in 2022 by Joe and Jess Clarke to farm Coloured Ryeland, Poll Dorset and Dutch Spotted Sheep for wool and meat in a wildlife-friendly setting.
The coastal site sits above Mothecombe beach and includes wetlands, woodland, orchards and wildflower meadows, all managed to support a huge diversity of wildlife.
During the visit, students will learn about life on the farm and explore and study the wildlife found at the site.

If you have heard of plasma, but have no idea how to make your own, why the sun relies on it, or what it has to do with destroying gherkins, then come along!
