  • Ofsted

Ofsted is the national body that inspects schools in England, giving parents and carers an independent view of how well a school is doing. Its role is to help ensure that schools are providing a strong education, maintaining high standards and continuing to improve over time.

At Ivybridge Community College, we welcome this professional scrutiny. Over time, the College has maintained a strong record through Ofsted inspection, with successive reports recognising the quality of education, the strength of leadership, the positive culture for learning and behaviour, and the breadth of opportunity available to students, including in the sixth form.

This sustained picture reflects a College that performs strongly within the national inspection framework while continuing to serve its community with ambition, inclusion and care. It also gives families confidence that the College is held to account by experienced professionals against clear national expectations.

Most Recent Inspection – February 2025

Following the inspection in February 2025, Ofsted confirmed a very positive picture of life at Ivybridge Community College. The report recognises that students enjoy learning, value the breadth of subjects on offer and benefit from exceptional support to achieve well. It also highlights very high expectations for students’ academic, emotional and social success, alongside impressive attitudes to learning and a calm, harmonious environment across the College.

The report also reflects the strength of relationships and inclusion at Ivybridge. Inspectors recognised the warm and nurturing relationships between staff and students, the bespoke support for pupils with SEND, the development of leadership skills, and the remarkable range of sporting, cultural and social opportunities available. Taken together, these findings present a strong picture of a College where students are known, supported and well prepared for their next steps.

    Safeguarding

Safeguarding is a central part of every Ofsted inspection, and rightly so. Ofsted’s current toolkit places strong emphasis on a school having an open and positive safeguarding culture that puts pupils’ interests first.

At Ivybridge Community College, this is an important strength. In the most recent report, Ofsted confirmed that safeguarding arrangements are effective, alongside recognising the calm, supportive and inclusive environment in which students learn and thrive.
