A Maritime Engineering Adventure for Girls in Stem Club

As part of their annual club programme of events, a group of our Year 9 and 12 Greenpower Club members (part of the Girls in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Club) went on a fascinating visit to key local employer Babcock at Devonport Royal Dockyard.

During their visit to what is currently the biggest dockyard in Western Europe, our students toured the frigate support centre and dry docks, the 3 basin area where decommissioned submarines are stored, defueled and recycled, and had a careers presentation with Stacey from the Early Careers Team

Our students also had the opportunity to connect with a variety of members of the Babcock team including former Engineering apprentices, and business and architecture graduates who are currently on the Babcock Graduate Programme of Training and Development.

A big thank you to the team at Babcock for making us feel so welcome during the visit.

Following the trip, one of our students fed back...

“I found the early careers talk which explained the different apprenticeships on offer and told us about the process for applying to these very useful.”
