    A Chance in the Army

Lance Corporal John Hill came to college at the end of May to talk to a group of Year 8 and 9 students about the careers and opportunities that a career in the Army can bring.

Lance Corporal Hill talked to students about his own career pathway in the Coldstream Guards, which has included travel to 15 different countries, elite Sports, jungle training in Belize, disaster relief operations, and representing the Forces at state events such as the Queen’s funeral

He spoke to students about how the Army fully embraces cultural diversity and equality in all areas.

Students discovered that the Army is one of the UK’s biggest employers of apprentices, with a wide range of roles available including:

    Engineering

    Music

    Intelligence
    and Communications

    Medical

    Finance

Students also found out about the bursaries and funding available for degree qualifications in areas such as:

    Bioscience

    Leadership and
    Strategic Studies

    Environmental Health

At the end of the session, students engaged in some quick fire questions, including:

What fitness level do you need to join the Army?

What is the difference between the Marines and the Army?

Is it useful to join the Army Cadets?
