It may have been inclement weather, but that didn’t prevent Ivybridge Community College students from paying their respects to all those who made many sacrifices in defending the nation and pay tribute to our current service personnel.

Students were shown presentations within their classes, which outlined the origins of 11 November as a day of Remembrance and how the Poppy became the Remembrance symbol.

In addition, the presentations also gave special mention to the Windrush Soldiers, the armistice ending the Korean War as it reaches its 70th Anniversary, as well as honouring ‘the generation in uniform who undertook National Service, 60 years after the last serviceman was demobbed’.

Meanwhile, we were delighted to welcome students who were members of local Cadet groups including the...

They were joined by members of the...

...who along with their student leaders, represented their organisations with pride.

We were also delighted to be joined by three former students, representing the Police Cadets as well as a small ensemble of musicians to play Eventide and the National Anthem to the ceremonial gathering.

Students and staff across the College also observed a two minute silence.

This event follows the local ceremony in Ivybridge on Remembrance Sunday, when students and staff from the College, braved the rain and represented the organisation on the march past.

The College would like to thank all of the organisations who contributed to the Remembrance activities and are proud to remember our national heroes who fought for our freedoms
