Girls in STEM at Goodwood Once Again

Congratulations to our Girls in STEM group who took a trip to Goodwood for their fourth consecutive Greenpower International Final.
It was a case of a ‘fantastic four’ for our Girls in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Group who have qualified for every International Final since their formation in 2022.
The Greenpower series is run by the Greenpower Education Trust, a UK based charity which gets young people enthusiastic about science and engineering by challenging them to design and/or build an electric racing car, culminating in a final for the top teams from each race at Goodwood.
It was a tough event for the team, with the girls having to content with a flat tyre in the second of their races, but a highlight of the day saw them fight with great endeavour to finish their first race just outside the top 50, with 84 teams overall.
The team performed even better within their own class category for the first race, squeezing into the top half of the table and just within the top 25 competitors (out of 48).
Design and Technology Teacher Luke Skorka-Brown praised the girls for ‘their fantastic teamwork and effort’.
He also expressed his thanks to National Grid and Quantum Sports for ‘their incredible support’.
The Ivybridge Community College Greenpower project commenced in 2022 and now the club includes many departments across the College (Humanities, Modern Foreign Languages, science, careers) run by Mr Skorka-Brown in Design and Technology.
A very well done to the Girls for all their effort – can they qualify for a fab fifth final in 2026 – we hope so!
