British Science Week 2024
The College hosted another brilliant British Science Week recently and a big thanks to all who were involved.
During Science Week, students at Ivybridge Community College took part in a variety of activities including Marvellous Microscopes, Colourful Chemistry and Super Science Domes.
Can you use Chemistry to create art? It would appear that yes you can! And Science week students had a go at this as part of the Colourful Chemistry sessions, courtesy of Miss Shaw.
Technically minded students had an opportunity to participate in a robotics workshop led by Mr Kerswell, whilst others had the opportunity to meet some exotic creatures courtesy of Animal Encounters and others braved the Rat Dissection.
For those looking for something a little more relaxed, there was an opportunity to enjoy a cinematic experience within a special Science Dome.
Topics covered included Dinosaurs, Super Volcanoes and Evolution, as well as a quick trip through the galaxy (pictured).
A big thank you to Mrs Peters, who once again, gave a talk to students regarding the resident Axolotls who live on site.
Students also had a chance to see a variety of scientific items of interest close up through the Microscopes workshops led by Miss Wright and Mr Sewell.
In addition, we also welcomed our School Employee Partner, Plessey, who presented an escape room style challenge to students based on their
MicroLED activities.
This week’s British Science Week has been another great success and we look forward to offering more opportunities for students very soon.
