Gold Medal and Personal Best for Noah
Ivybridge Community College Year 8 student, Noah Jones, won a Gold Medal in the U15 Pole Vault when he competed in the Southwest Indoor Championships in Cardiff recently.
Noah took part in ‘Vault Cardiff’ which is a major Pole Vault competition; he managed to do a personal best height of 2.82m, which was high enough to get the qualifying standard for the British U15 and U17 Championships to be held in Sheffield on the 25 February 2018.
Athletics moves in two-year age groups, unlike most sports and this year Noah will be competing against Year 8 and 9 boys. As the first year at U15, Noah will get a chance to work on the technical side of Pole Vault.
Noah's next goal is to get the qualifying height for the English Schools Finals later in the year. He needs to get a height of 3.05m to qualify, this will partly depend on how much he grows and whether he can vault on a longer pole.
Noah competes for the College Athletics Team at school competitions and was also part of the Gymnastics Team that won a Gold Medal at last year’s National Schools Gymnastics Championships. Noah trains with the City of Plymouth Athletics Club at Brickfields, Plymouth.
