Rugby and Football Alumni Impress in Sporting Fixtures
The end of March saw the PE Department at Ivybridge Community College celebrating a successful week in sport as they had a number of former students involved in International Football Fixtures, Premiership Rugby Fixtures and Professional League football matches.
Starting with International Football, Luke Jephcott represented the Wales U21 squad in their game against the Republic of Ireland, which they unfortunately lost 2-1. Following the game, Luke travelled to Blackpool to join the rest of the Plymouth Argyle squad in preparation for their match against Blackpool the following day. He joined a squad that already included former students Michael Cooper, Klaidi Lolos and Ollie Tomlinson. That game finished with a 2-2 draw, with Argyle getting the equaliser in injury and stoppage time.
On Friday, 26 March, the Exeter Chiefs’ rugby fixture against Gloucester in the Gallagher Premiership, featured five former Ivybridge students in its squad. Despite the Chiefs not winning that fixture, it was great to see Richard Capstick, Rus Tuima, Danny Southworth, Alfie Petch and Stu Townsend all involved.
Caroline Johnson, Associate Leader, said, “It’s always wonderful to hear about the successes of our former students. I know many of our staff will have been watching, cheering along and feeling proud of their achievements”.
