Our Values

At Ivybridge Community College, our values of Respect, Aspiration, Integrity and Compassion bring our vision to life. They matter because they shape the culture of our College for students, staff, families and the wider community we serve. Together, they create the conditions for high standards, strong relationships, inclusion and a deep sense of belonging.

Our values are lived out every day through excellent teaching, calm and purposeful learning, strong pastoral care and the many opportunities available across College life. As a School of Character, we believe that who students become is just as important as what they achieve. Through a broad curriculum, rich personal development and diverse enrichment opportunities, we help every young person to flourish academically, socially and personally.

Respect

By valuing others and our college environment and by taking responsibility.

Respect is the foundation of a strong learning community. It is shown in the way students treat one another, care for their environment and take responsibility for their actions and their learning. Respect helps to create classrooms that are calm, focused and free from unnecessary disruption, so that every student can learn well and achieve highly.

Aspiration

By aiming high in everything we do.

Aspiration means believing in what is possible and striving for excellence. At Ivybridge, students are challenged through a broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum, while also benefiting from an exceptional range of opportunities in sport, the arts, leadership, service, outdoor education, work experience and academic enrichment. We want every student to discover their strengths, broaden their horizons and feel confident about their future.

Integrity

By doing the right thing, especially when no one is looking.

Integrity is about honesty, responsibility and making good choices. As a School of Character, we develop integrity through a whole-college approach: in lessons, through relationships, through leadership and through the example set by others. Character is taught, caught and sought, helping students build the habits, resilience and self-discipline that enable them to succeed in school and beyond.

Compassion

By seeking to understand the feelings of others and by showing kindness.

Compassion lies at the heart of our inclusive culture. It means noticing when others need support, showing kindness and ensuring that every student feels seen, valued and able to belong. This is reflected in our inclusive curriculum, our pastoral care and the support available for students with additional needs, so that all young people can access learning and thrive.

Living Our Values

These values shape everything we do, from high-quality learning in the classroom to personal development, enrichment and student leadership beyond it. They help us maintain high standards, develop strong character and provide exceptional opportunities for all. In partnership with families and as part of the Westcountry Schools Trust, we are proud to nurture young people who are respectful, aspirational, principled and compassionate, and who are ready to contribute positively to society.
