  • Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium is additional funding for publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged children and close the gap between them and their peers.

Ivybridge Community College serves a diverse and vibrant community, welcoming students from a wide range of backgrounds, abilities and experiences. We are committed to ensuring that every student thrives academically, socially and personally. Our ethos centres on ambition, inclusion and opportunity for all, and this policy outlines how we use the Pupil Premium grant to remove barriers and enable every learner to flourish.

We believe that disadvantage must never define a child’s future. Our approach ensures that students eligible for Pupil Premium receive the support, challenge and enrichment needed to achieve highly and develop the confidence, resilience and character required for lifelong success.

Each year we publish details of how Pupil Premium has been allocated and data showing the progress of our students. We understand that barriers to learning can manifest in a number of different ways, and tailor our support accordingly to meet the needs of students. We recognise that not all eligible pupils are low attaining and the funding is used to support progress for all.

If you would like to check your eligibility for financial support and Free School Meals, please use the Citizen Portal link on the College Website.

We encourage communication from parents and carers of students eligible for Pupil Premium, Pupil Premium Plus and Service Pupil Premium, so that we can work together in order to tailor appropriate support for every child.

Further Information on Service Pupil Premium

In order to support the significant number of students at Ivybridge Community College who are members of service families, we have developed a system of in-school pastoral support.

We have over 120 children from service families at the College, and their primary point of contact is their Pastoral Leader.  Pastoral Leaders are best placed to advocate for and support students and their families.  Pastoral Leaders are also well placed to suggest wider service support mechanisms when needed.

We recognise that the level of support our service premium children will need is likely to differ throughout the academic year.  We understand that service families may experience periods of increased challenge before, during and after deployment.  Therefore, we encourage communication from parents and carers, where possible, to let us know when a parent or carer has been deployed.  This is to ensure that we are able to quickly make any necessary adjustments and offer the appropriate support for students during this period, unique to their individual needs.

We recognise that each students’ experience as a service child is different, which is why we choose to adopt a personalised approach rather than provide blanket support.
