Celebrating another year of exceptional student achievement and ambitious next steps

The College is delighted to celebrate another year of very strong Post-16 results, with students achieving an impressive range of academic and vocational qualifications and securing exciting destinations for their next steps.

Among those celebrating exceptional results are Sophie Gilvear, who achieved four A* grades and is progressing to the University of Cambridge to study Veterinary Science, and Jed Hooper, who achieved three A* grades and an A and will also progress to the University of Cambridge to study Medicine.

The College is also celebrating the achievements of  Marcus Chapman, Agnes Harding, Charlotte Cann, Imogen Blackwell and Holly Haymes, who all achieved multiple A*–A grades.

These individual successes reflect another year of very strong overall performance. 46% of students achieved at least one A* or A grade, while 62% achieved grades including AAB. The average grade for Applied subjects was an impressive Distinction.

Students are now progressing to an exciting range of destinations, including university courses in Robotics, Mechatronics and Control Engineering, Law, Sports Therapy and Costume for Theatre and Screen, alongside highly competitive apprenticeships across the country.

There were also outstanding performances across individual subjects, with 50% of Chemistry students achieving an A or A*, 67% of Photography students achieving an A or A*, and an exceptional 83% of Health and Social Care students achieving a Distinction or above. The College is also celebrating outstanding success in the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), with 67% of students achieving an A or A*.

Principal Rachel Hutchinson said: “We are immensely proud of our students and the results they have achieved. These outcomes reflect not only their academic ability, but their resilience, commitment and willingness to engage fully with the opportunities and support available to them. Results day is about much more than a set of grades. It is about celebrating the individual journeys, talents and ambitions of every student and the exciting opportunities that lie ahead. We are particularly delighted to see students progressing to highly competitive university courses, prestigious apprenticeships and a wide range of other destinations.  We celebrate every student who has reached this point and wish them every success as they take their next steps.”

Students also highlighted the support they received in the run-up to their examinations. Chloe Weaver, who achieved three A grades in Mathematics, Business and Psychology and is progressing to a degree apprenticeship in Accountancy, said: “I am really excited to start my accountancy apprenticeship. The grades I’ve achieved at Ivybridge have really given me the confidence in starting this next chapter”. Also, Marcus Chapman, who achieved four A grades in Biology, Chemistry, Spanish and Criminology, said “I am so happy to have secured a place at the University of East Anglia to study Medicine. I really bought in and focussed on revision to improve my grades, and it worked, and it was worth it”.

Dan Hayward, Assistant Principal, said that “The College's Finish Line strategy provides focussed academic support during the crucial final stages of their journey through additional specialist teaching, mentoring and guidance. The programme helps students build confidence, raise their aspirations and approach their examinations ready to succeed”.

The College is equally proud of the breadth of destinations achieved by its students, with successful progression into university, apprenticeships and other pathways. Notably there has been a very high success rate for early entry, Oxbridge and Medicine applicants securing their places.

“We want every student to leave us with the confidence, knowledge and ambition to thrive in whatever comes next,” added Nichola Offer, Deputy Principal. “Today is a celebration of that ambition. We congratulate every one of our students and look forward to hearing about all they go on to achieve, as part of our alumni family.”

As the College community comes together to celebrate these outstanding achievements, we wish all our students continued success in their next steps.
