Fine Dining on a Lockdown Budget
Ivybridge Community College students in Years 7, 8 and 10 have been wonderfully inventive with their Food Studies fun task for Mental Health Awareness week.
Students were invited to create a ‘fine dining’ experience using only a tin of beans (or spaghetti) and some toast. Creativity was key and students could present the dish any way they liked.
Many of the students chose a Valentines theme and created heart-shaped dishes using different finishing techniques.
Kylie Nichols, teacher of Food Studies explained, “I wanted to move students away from College work but remain within my passion of teaching food. Food as a subject is under-rated and it was a way for students to ‘think outside the box’ and be able to feed themselves too.”
Caroline Johnson, Associate Leader, said, “As a College, we really wanted to support students in engaging with Mental Health Awareness week and are thrilled that students took part so enthusiastically in this activity. Finding fun and joy in the small things is incredibly important at the moment and it’s great to see students embracing this.”
