Incredible Success at the Ten Tors Expedition

Ivybridge Community College enjoyed another year of incredible accomplishment at the Ten Tors expedition held over the weekend of Saturday, 11 May and Sunday, 12 May.

Four teams of students successfully completed the expedition.  Two of the teams walked under the College name, with another two teams walking for the Erme and Yealm Valley Hillwalking Club.

Three teams undertook the thirty-five mile challenge and one team the forty-five mile challenge.

The teams set off from Okehampton army camp at 7.00 am on Saturday morning and experienced almost perfect walking conditions over the weekend.

The first of the thirty-five mile teams arrived back at 10.30am on Sunday morning and all three thirty-five mile teams were back by 11.30am.  The forty-five mile team was not far behind, completing their challenge at 12.30pm.

"The exceptional success of all of those involved is a reflection of the demanding eight-month training process that they have followed.  This year’s preparation saw the group training regularly in wet conditions and the final practice expedition was particularly demanding with fifty mile an hour winds," said Andrew Mitchell, Head of Outdoor Education at Ivybridge Community College.

It is recognised by the College the huge involvement undertaken by a team of volunteers to make this happen, and prepare the students to such a high standard.
