History competition winners announced!

The History Department would like to say a big thank you to all Year 7 students who entered the Castle Competition this term.  We have been amazed at the effort and detail that has gone in to making beautiful models, detailed presentations and delicious cakes that all show how and why castles have changed over time.

Throughout this term in History, students have been investigating the formation of early Norman castles and how William the Conqueror built Motte and Bailey castles in order to gain control over the people of England.  We then began investigating how these castles have changed over time to become much larger concentric castles that make use of different, much stronger materials to help protect themselves during an attack.  Students have demonstrated these changes in a variety of ways, whilst some students made videos and gave presentations that outlined the advantages and disadvantages of each castle, others chose a more creative way to display these changes through baking cakes, engraving glasses and making posters that explain why these changes were needed.  It was incredibly difficult to choose a ‘finalist’ from each class that would go through to the judging, but the following were selected; Yoana Grudleva (7STB), Millie Lloyd-Harling (7SML), Elian Causan (7KGT), Callum Symons (7SML), Evie Fairclough (7SML), Lewis Francis(7STB), Charles Rosewarne-Bennett (7SML), Lucy Feeney (7SML), James Anderson (7BRY), Mya Federico (7DYE), Sam Tomlinson (7CON), Kaden Bell (7SDN), Erin Olsen (7TBL), Hayden Swan (7CON) and Tyler Ingram (7ADM).

The overall winners will be announced in Year 7 assembly on Friday, 10 March.  Well done to our finalists but also a big well done to everyone that took part.  Keep your eyes peeled for our next competition in the Summer term!
