Work Experience

Welcome to Work Experience

Work experience will be a fantastic opportunity for you to try out an area of potential interest in terms of your future career.  It will help enormously in terms of boosting your university application, or your application for an apprenticeship, giving you valuable experience that you can build on and learn from.  It will also give you an excellent insight into the world of work.

So: what next? You can either use the database of employers on the Devonlearnaboutwork.org website, (the instructions are in the booklet) or contact other employers.  You will need to be polite and persistent: email the company first, then follow up with a phone call.

There will be drop in sessions to help with the process, and these will take place every Thursday lunchtime in the TLRC.  You will also find information in Handouts/Sixth Form/ Work experience.

Remember: you have 8 weeks to find a placement, as the deadline is Friday, 23 February! This sounds like a long time, however you will need to prioritise it now.  We then need two forms: the Health Declaration form and the Work Experience Agreement form, signed by the employer, yourself and your parents (just getting these signed will take time).

Sarah Street, Administrator in the Sixth Form office (next to the Common room) will be your point of contact for questions and delivering your forms.

Best of luck

Ms Daniel
