Let Them Loose!

Ms Watkinson's classes were treated to an exciting and innovative Global & National Writing Challenge run by the EMC (English and Media Centre).

Students invited to use a stimulus image or written prompt as an inspiration to write in any form they wanted – poetry, novel, non-fiction: the choice was endless – for one lesson!  The activity was designed by EMC to help students write with “minimal intervention” from the teacher and to be “let loose” with writing – something that regular assessments and exam pressures can take away.

The best bit?  Student work was photographed and uploaded onto Instagram (using account #EMCLetThemLoose #NationalWritingDay) and Twitter (@EngMediaCentre) as well as onto the EMC website.  The EMC were overrun with exciting entries – well over 100 in the first few hours – from all over the world, including China and India.  They reported they were “overwhelmed by the level of engagement, with lots of examples of whole schools taking part, including all members of staff.”

We were lucky to be a part of such a successful global event celebrating the written word and creativity – thank you Ms Watkinson!  Get online to see if you spot our ICC entries.
